CONSETT AMATEUR SWIMMING CLUB

Consett Amateur Swimming Club was founded in 1963 by a group of enthusiastic parents committed to providing swimming opportunities to the children of Consett and surrounding areas. With access to a pool but no money to pay for the facilities available, a number of parents approached local businesses asking for financial donations to support the founding of a local swimming club.

Instrumental in this process was our then Club President, Mrs Sadie Walton who, in her own inimitable style and ably supported by other parents, secured sufficient finances to ensure that Consett ASC was able to take its first faltering steps. The legacy instigated by Sadie and her cohorts remains evident today by the dedications inscribed upon the Club trophies.

In the intervening years, Consett ASC has undergone many changes however, one thing remains constant – the commitment of those involved in managing the Club to provide the best swimming opportunities to the children of Consett and surrounding areas.

In the fullness of time, Consett ASC has emerged and developed into a well respected Swimming Club noted for producing swimmers of significant ability capable of competing at the highest levels available, our successes include swimmers who have competed at international level as well many individuals who have represented the Club at local, County, Regional and National level.

Currently the majority of members are children who wish to improve upon their current swimming ability. The main structure of the Club is based upon developing children to be the best they can be and our commitment to our competitive swimmers is equally as strong.

Consett ASC is run entirely by volunteers and is a not-for-profit Club, with Committee Members, Coaches and Teachers receiving no payment for the services they provide for the Club. Club management can be difficult however, the Committee work hard to ensure that the best swimming services are provided to all members at all times. Overall, Consett ASC continues to fulfil all the commitment decided upon in the early 1960’s and with the continued support of all members and supporters the Club will improve upon its ever increasing reputation in swimming circles in the North East and beyond in providing excellent swimming opportunities.
